Not looking to take anything away from anyone on the list, but I would like to see how many tournaments everyone entered, INCLUDING ones they didn't place in, in order to accumulate their points.

One issue I have always had with any way I see of calculating a player of the year is that they have never taken into account how well someone has performed overall. If they enter 100 events, and place in only 10 of them, there is no penalty (other than not getting more points) for those events in which they do poorly. So, someone with a huge bankroll, who enters every event they can, will have a huge advantage over someone who is only able to enter fewer events.

Also, while I agree there should be an added benefit to coming in at the top of an event with more players, looking at the point listings, it seems too skewed in my opinion. The point leader got over half of their points from just 2 events.

I don't have a solution, wish I did, but did want to point out that (IMHO) there are some flaws which need to be addressed in the current ranking system.

See you at the tables,
Bart

GreenDoberman,

Sorry if I didn't make it clear. I understand what the criteria are

http://www.cardplayer.com/player_of_the_year/poycriteria.php

I just feel that it is flawed.

It would be like deciding the MVP in baseball only counting those at-bats where you got a hit.

For example, the leader, Daniel Negreanu, who by all accounts is an excellent player, and whom I'm NOT looking to take anything away from, has finished at 8 final tables to accumulate his points.

Is this from 8 events that he entered, or 35?

If events are the same size and same buy-in and one person enters 10 events and finishes at 9 final tables, coming in 5th each time, but a second person enters 50 events and finishes at 10 final tables, coming in 5th each time, the second person will rank higher in the player of the year rankings and I just wanted to point out that (IMHO) that seems flawed.

See you at the tables,
Bart

I believe Daniel just won the Borgata event tonight, I may be wrong though, he had the chip lead with 3 left I know for sure. Him, David Williams, Arieh, and then Ivey got 6th. Daniel is a great player.
